Welcome to More Than a Bakery

When you order from Moya Coop and Confections, you’re getting more than a homemade treat. You’re also supporting a mission that means so much to me and my family.

Since I don’t have a storefront yet, this page is where I can open the door to my kitchen and share the real story behind the business.

Moya Coop and Confections started with my love of baking, but the heart of it is my family and our Moyamoya journey.

Why This Bakery Exists

Our lives changed when our son was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease in 2023.

If you’ve never heard of Moyamoya before, it is a rare condition that affects the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. When those vessels become narrowed or blocked, the brain tries to create a fragile network of tiny blood vessels to help get the blood flow it needs. On medical scans, those vessels can look like a “puff of smoke,” which is what Moyamoya means in Japanese.

Moyamoya has brought brain surgeries, doctor appointments, hard decisions, uncertainty and days we never expected to face. It has also shown me just how strong and resilient my son is.

Watching him keep going has changed me. It is one of the reasons I keep going too.

More Than Baking

I’m building this bakery from home while balancing family life, work, farm life and everything else that comes with running a small business. It isn’t always picture-perfect. Sometimes there are wins, sometimes there are flops and most of the time I’m learning as I go.

But every cake, cookie, pie and treat is made with care. And every order helps me continue building a platform for Moyamoya awareness.

What to Expect

More Than a Bakery gives me room to share the stories, lessons and everyday moments that make Moya Coop and Confections what it is.

The blog is an extra way to connect, while email subscribers will continue to get first dibs on new treats, ordering opportunities, availability, special announcements and other bakery updates.

Here, you can expect to find:

  • Our Moyamoya journey

  • Updates, milestones and lessons our family is learning

  • Stories and behind-the-scenes moments from my kitchen, bakery and farm

  • Community news and local events

  • Awareness information and resources

Some posts will be sweet. Some may be difficult. Some will simply be about what’s happening around the bakery. That’s because Moya Coop and Confections is made up of all of those things.

It is baking, family, faith, hard work, learning and purpose all mixed together.

Thank you for supporting my small bakery, ordering from my online shop, sharing my posts and taking the time to learn about Moyamoya disease.

Most of all, thank you for standing with my family and helping me bake with a purpose.

With love and gratitude,
Crista
