Some of the Chickens Behind the Names

If you’ve ever wondered where some of the names for our treats came from, the answer is simple: the chickens.

Farm life has always been a big part of our story. The flock brought plenty of personality, laughter and memories into our days, and a few special chickens inspired the names of some of our treats.

Although Stingy, Miss Dot, Betty and Turbo are no longer with us, their personalities live on through the products that carry their names.

Stingy: Sweet, Loving and Not Interested in Sharing

Stingy got her name honestly.

Whenever we gave the chickens treats, she was always the first one there. She loved her food and was not particularly interested in sharing it with anyone else. She wanted the best spot, the first bite and preferably all the treats.

Even with her food-guarding ways, Stingy was a sweetheart. She had a big personality and quickly became one of those chickens who was impossible not to love.

That’s how Stingy’s Vanilla Blondie Bites got their name: a little sweet, a little sassy and named after a chicken who knew exactly what she wanted.

Miss Dot: The Lap Chicken

Miss Dot was named for the one dot she had on her.

But her name wasn’t the only thing that made her special. Miss Dot was one of the sweetest chickens around. She was always the first to run up, jump into your lap and settle in for a snuggle.

If you let her, she would happily lie in your lap and sleep all day.

Her gentle, loving personality made her the perfect inspiration for Miss Dot’s Cinnamon Rolls, a comforting treat with a name that carries a very special memory.

Betty: The Rooster We Thought Was a Hen

Betty’s story is probably the funniest of the four.

We raised Betty from a baby chick and were completely convinced he was a hen. As it turned out, we were wrong. Betty was actually a rooster.

By the time we realized it, we couldn’t stop calling him Betty. The name had already stuck, so Betty he remained.

He was the sweetest rooster we had. He loved to snuggle and would even fly into our arms. For a rooster, he had a remarkably gentle and affectionate personality.

That memory lives on in Betty’s Banana Pudding.

Turbo: Fast and Full of Sass

Turbo got her name because she was incredibly fast.

As a baby chick, nobody could catch her. She was always moving, darting around and keeping everyone on their toes. She was loving, but she also had plenty of sass.

It also took me a while to accomplish a good brownie recipe. I had to keep working at it until I got the texture and flavor just right.

That combination of patience in the kitchen and Turbo’s unforgettable personality made Turbo’s Fudge Brownie Bites the perfect name. She may have been hard to catch, but she was impossible to forget.

Sweet Memories from the Coop

The names behind these treats are more than just names. They are little reminders of chickens who brought joy, laughter and companionship into our lives.

Naming products after them gives us a way to keep their memories close and share a small part of their personalities with you. Farm life has a way of making its mark on everything, including the treats that come from the kitchen.

So, the next time you see Stingy’s Vanilla Blondie Bites, Miss Dot’s Cinnamon Rolls, Betty’s Banana Pudding or Turbo’s Fudge Brownie Bites, you’ll know there’s a chicken story behind each one.

And around here, that makes the treats just a little sweeter.
